If your book is going to switch between first and third person, the story itself has to justify that decision, and this did not

I read this book for part of a book club and probably wouldn't have picked it up otherwise, but it wasn't too bad. I think the biggest drawback I have with the domestic thriller / crime thriller genre is that they tend to all blend together pretty quickly. I don't remember a bunch about this plot, but I will say that I enjoyed the audiobook narration.

I was intrigued and the book kept me on edge and wanting to know what's next pretty consistently, but I felt disappointed at all the loose threads and red herrings that were almost more interesting than the plot we ended up with. The premise was interesting, but I would have almost rather had this be a contemporary or literary fiction that delved more into some of those B plots.

This is a very middling, generic sort of thriller.  It's serviceable - it doesn't fail at anything particularly - it's just formulaic and it's easy to foresee the ending.

Lizzie must represent an old law school friend despite her not specializing in criminal law. And on top of that she’s in a strained marriage that’s already taken so much from her.

The beginning is very slow. I’d say it isn’t until the last half that things start to pick up. I will say the twists toward the end took me by surprise. It was fine for a thriller.

This book was so intense and every time I thought I found out “whodunnit” but I was wrong every time (which makes for a fun reading experience). I really enjoyed the legal transcripts separating the chapters, which always added more clues to the investigation.

This was a well-crafted legal/domestic mystery with a big cast of characters and mixed media elements that were really interesting to read. I enjoyed the legal elements and that there were multiple mysteries, although it did sometimes feel like there was probably a bit too much going on. I didn't really care for the smaller reveals throughout the book that were mostly to do with domestic drama; I did like the final reveal, though it wasn't super shocking or memorable, but it was surprising in a way that made sense. I also wish the characters had been more fleshed out so I could have cared more about them, but overall this was an enjoyable read that I would highly recommend to any fans of domestic and/or legal mysteries.
