Wow, this book. I picked it up on a whim after seeing it on Novel Neighbors bookstagram page. Read the first four pages in the store and couldn't leave without it.

It took me a minute to get past the over use of 60s slang, but when I got into the emotional scenes with Web and Johnathan, I wouldn't escape the book's pull. I just wanted Web and Johnathan to be happy!!!

This book made me cry, a lot. I felt big emotions while reading it. There were also scenes that felt just like a David Bowie song.

I really, really loved it.

I’d give this book 10* if I could. Perhaps one of the best, most emotional books I’ve read in the last five years. I wish I could read it again for the first time, over and over. The narration was wonderful as well. PLEASE READ IT.

This book has been on my TBR for several years, meant to fulfill a challenging entry in the Alphabet Reading Challenge. I finally got to the audio at the start of this year and...found it somewhat lacking. While I did appreciate the queer and Indigenous representation, this book was, overall, a pretty big bummer. Huge CW for homophobia, racism, alcoholism, and abuse. Maybe the romance genre has spoiled me, but I found myself left wanting a more conclusive happily ever after.

An exploration of queer identity in 1973 middle America. Gorgeous writing, developed characters. Finished in 2 days Made me cry at 3am. Absolute legend of a book.
