This was the first Star Wars Legends book I've read and it was spectacular. Timothy Zahn writing has a certain magic to it that immediately draws you in. The characters act really faithful to the original films it feels like a direct continuation of them. Luke, Han and Leia each have separate plot lines that expand their characters in new areas, but the book really shines with the new antagonists Zahn introduces who are some of the most popular (including Thrawn who appears in the TV shows). The one problem I have with the book is the ending which is slightly underwhelming as a lot of plot threads were left unanswered. Although, this could be fixed in the other 2 books in the trilogy it nonetheless gave an sour taste in my mouth. Overall, this is a must read for any Star Wars fan and I will 100% continue reading the series.

It’s not for me. I did like this more ruthless version of Thrawn though. But this book mostly focuses on Luke, Leia, Han, and a few characters made up for the book. Very unpopular opinion but I’m not a huge fan of the og trilogy crew, and I really didn’t like the new characters. Especially Mara Jade. Maybe it was because I listened to the audiobooks and couldn’t stand the voice the narrator gave her.. everything she said was in the tone of a constantly annoyed angsty teenager… it got annoying really fast.

Plot wise I had a hard time keeping track of everything. There was a lot of filler, too. It’s a relatively fast-medium paced book but it felt slow because of the filler (and the fact that I was just bored). I also didn’t like the whole pregnant Leia thing. Just a personal thing but I really don’t like reading about pregnancy and motherhood. I will say though she remained a badass all throughout her pregnancy so props to her.

I’m just here for Thrawn let’s be real.
