2.75

For some for most this rating should be a 3.75 but I’m knocking it down to 2.75 because the  one of the main character Delilah is a lesbian, but she does not use the word lesbian to describe herself until halfway through the book but before that she uses the D word. Which is not something people who are not lesbians should say. And promo for this book, Delilah is described as a lesbian, but in the actual book itself she is not described as one until halfway through the book. Also, this book is very alcohol dependent. And by that I mean that in most of the scenes were something important is happening or there’s just a group gathering. Alcohol is present and being talked about and being drink. Which I personally have an issue with and I also think it paint the idea that you have to drink to be an adult and that queer people drink a lot.
Onto the romance part of this book I thought it was fine. I don’t love that. The reason Delilah got with Claire was essentially for bed and I know that it doesn’t end up being like that in the long run but as somebody who grew up plus size it’s hard to read it the skinny hot person going out with a plus size person as a bet, even when it turns out fun. I also think that big, romantic gesture of taking the photo of Claire was creepy and not romantic. So it didn’t really work as a romance story for me.
I think the relationships in the book between the characters are realistic. Like how Astrid and Delilah feel toward each other. And the friend group was heart warming.

I really enjoyed this book! Delilah is a fun snarky character and I enjoyed her relationship with Claire. I was also surprised by the depth of the exploration into Astrid's character. The characters are a little much, but in the most fun way; they aren't caricatures and you want to see them succeed and get to their happy endings.

Thank you Netgalley and Berkley for an arc, here is my honest review.

4.75

Delilah Green Doesn’t Care is everything I need in a romance book, queer women falling in love while dealing with the difficulties that come with life.

Loneliest is always a topic in romance books, but I think this is the first time I felt that it was written well. Delilah is a new comfort character for me and I cried a few times reading her POV.

Delilah and Claire’s chemistry is just written so perfectly and I understand why they fell for each other. And although they fell in love in such a short amount of time, it didn’t feel like insta-love.

One of the main issues many romance books have is how side characters are written. At times, side characters are forgotten which leaves the story feeling empty. Thankfully, this didn’t happen here and most side characters had great development. Everyone but Iris, I wanted to learn more about her, but that never happened.

Overall, I love this book and can’t wait for the next book, which is about Astrid(Delilah’s sister)
