I think this is the first Morse I read many many years ago. I still think it's probably the best. Impishly written, more red herrings than the UK can export to the EU, and an underlying sadness about the human condition make this a real masterpiece.

I'm so glad to be done with this book. It just seemed to drag!!! I guess I'm just not used to Dexter's writing, and maybe all his books are like this. I did appreciate the more compatible interplay between Morse and Lewis, or rather, I should say, that Lewis has become more comfortable with Morse's gruff and often unreasonable character, and let's it roll off his back.

I don't really know what to make of this book. I found it a little tedious and confusing to read. I don't know if that is beacuse I didn't like the style it was written in or just because it was written before I was born (old fashioned?). It did keep me guessing a little, as I read it all. But over all I was left disapointed. No surprised that I plan to release it. Hope the next reader enjoys it more than me.
