I read this book with my English class so the start and finish times are approximates, but wow. Major shoutout to my English teacher for assigning it, easily one of my new favourite novels. Just be mindful of the possible triggers in this novel as it talks of rape and abuse among other things. I would recommend this to anyone!

A gut-wrenching, gripping read, written so smoothly that it is easy to just plough through the whole thing. Am looking forward to watching the movie, too.

These days, it is difficult to imagine Afghanistan as anything other than a husk of a country tragically ravaged by one war after the next for decades. This book is an important reminder that it was not always this way, and hopefully will some day thrive again.
