I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this book. Poetry is not my thing, and some of the poems didn’t seem like traditional poetry, but I totally related to what she was saying about women. She speaks to all the things we can feel about being wives and mothers and just females. It was a quick read but I think I’d go back and read some of these poems again.

3.5 stars I really enjoyed the first part. The sections on parenting connected less with me but were still beautiful.

This was really good.

I don't read poetry very often. It's not because I don't like it, but just because I would rather read terrible romance books when I have a break from reading for school. (Side note: I'm in college now? I feel like a 5 year old. Anyway...) I picked this up mainly because it was short, and I am so glad that I did. For something I went into with few expectations, I was really blown away.

Overall, if you're looking for a really deep collection of poetry that you can zoom through, I would strongly recommend!

What Kind of Woman by Kate Baer is an intense, moving and resonant collection about the ways life can grind women down and ways they can uplift.

Kate Baer's poetry hits for me. I came for "Girls' Night Out" and stayed for "To Take Back a Life" and all the other poems in this collection that feel like a tight hug from a close friend sitting right beside you. There's nothing complicated going on here, but there is something deep, meaningful, and brilliant that puts words to feelings and events that I and many other women have experienced. These poems addressed different phases of womanhood in a well-conceived, cup-filling way that I absolutely loved.

My bestie sent me this beautiful book of poetry on Inauguration Day and they all really spoke to me, particularly "Female Candidate" as the first female VP was sworn into office. Think any woman will be able to relate to this.
