I did in fact read through this whole book and it is without a doubt the most in-depth guide to the enneagram I have encountered (which was what every expert in the enneagram has said). While it is in-depth and verbose I still found it easy to understand and relatable. This book will forever be a reference and resource for me as I continue to learn more about the enneagram. I am so grateful Chestnut took the time to write such an invaluable book.

Super long book considering it mostly deals with the subtypes and growth; would recommend this to people who already have a basic knowledge of the Enneagram and are looking for guiding tools to reflect on themselves and grow into a healthier person.

I mostly used the section that differentiates two types at a time to help you discern which one is really yours, and then the chapter on my enneagram type, which was insightful and well thought out.

If you’re looking for information on all of the types, this will be a very long read. If you’re looking for an overview of the Enneagram, this is probably too specific for you.

An essential text for those interested in the Enneagram

Five stars. Not only does this book give an in depth description of each of the subtypes, it also has guidance for growth, comparison of all numbers to all other numbers, and mapping Enneagram onto Dante's Inferno and Odyssey's nine lands. What more could you ask for in a book about the enneagram?

Having read many other enneagram books, I decided I would just read the intro chapters and the chapter focusing on my tendency, Type 3. It was very thorough, discussing subtypes and wings in detail.

Rigid and too specific to accommodate most people (well I don’t know. I didn’t conduct any studies. I just know for me it was too specific. I would start off nodding my head along and going “ok I think she’s onto something because I feel this” and she would veer off and it would kinda feel like a bad psychic reading like “No not quite. Actually that’s completely off now.”)

Some of the types are straight up pathological and are Cluster B personality disorders. Maybe that’s the nature of enneagram? Normalized pathologies.

I’m hating hard right now with my negative remarks but I also did resonate with parts of it. So much so that I cried. So it gets a 3 overall.

Seemed well written and researched. It felt accurate to my type and was generally informative.
