I loved this novel and the characters but the ending felt so rushed. Also the communism red scare plot point was not fleshed out enough + so many other unanswered questions. I honestly think there could be a trilogy just to wrap up the stories started in this book.

i really took my time with this (thank you law firm job) but that hasnt minimised its effect on me at all
as a sapphic girl it is so meaningful to read stories like this and though i do think this was a bit slow at times the story itself is so impactful and my heart aches to think about all the women who came before me who could not be with their love
i certainly could not be without my abs

Loved it a lot more than I expected, considering YA isn't really my thing. Would have been 4.5 stars but
not a fan of the ambiguous ending. Better than a sad ending though.

I am so glad I got to read this book. The ending felt a little anticlimactic, but that is my only real complaint. You feel like you are walking through life with Lilly and her relatives. I would read this book again in a heartbeat and recommend it to anyone.

This was a fun, easy to consume book, I wish there was more time spent on the
protagonist's father's communist party and possible deportation
plotline but that's not a huge complaint as the book primarily focuses on Lily's journey discovering her queerness. It was short and bittersweet, well written and engrossing. The book is very character focused and does a great job portraying the American born Chinese experience.

I also really enjoyed the setting of 1950s Chinatown. The book really does a great job of transporting you to San Francisco
