I absolutely loved everything about this book. I really felt for the main character at the beginning due to her struggles with bullying and mental illness, and I found that the author really shed a light on how these issues affect people emotionally in the book. I was so happy when she found her people
with the exception of the very questionable adult-minor relationship she briefly enters
and her passion in life, and I love how that helps to save her from a really dark, difficult place mentally - it really seems to have given her a sense of purpose and identity. The book shows the power of self-discovery, the importance of having purpose or meaning in your life and that even in the darkest of times, there is always hope.
Obviously there are difficulties, obstacles and conflict along the way, but the author demonstrates that this is only to be expected and that all problems eventually get solved somehow
. The plot is really well-structured and developed. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading books with themes about identity and self-discovery, friendships, music and mental health.

tw: self-harm, suicide, bullying

I liked watching Elise become more comfortable at START, learn how to DJ, and figure out who she wanted to be. I also like seeing her make real friends. Elise’s parents sucked. They only noticed their daughter when she did something wrong and they literally got mad at her for being bullied. Also, her school friends were annoying and refused to believe her. The age gap relationship was not the move. That makes it sound like I didn’t like this. I did. I think Elise learned to
A. screw high school bullies
and
B. real friends will accept you for who you are
