A short read, this book felt like a Christmas story. It’s set around Christmastime in Ireland. It’s a simple story but packs a punch. It’s about decisions we make, or don’t, and quiet heroism.

I read this for book club. When I first finished I didn't think that it would stick with me but I am still thinking about it a couple months later. I might reread this next year. I really appreciated my book club members' thoughts and discussion.

Favorite quote — “always it was the same, Furlong thought; always they carried mechanically on without a pause, to the next job at hand. What would life be like, he wondered, if they were given time to think and reflect over things? Might their lives be different or much the same — or would they just lose the run of themselves?” (Page count unknown)
