I could have lived without reading this book.
Though I did like the fact that instead of portraying vampires as "beautiful people" these were the ugly, power hungry ones. And maybe the heroes will be more compelling in future books but I found them, for the most part, rather annoying!

A fairly interesting fantasy/horror mix with the requisite number of heroes and villains. It was entertaining if not memorable.

I tried, I really did. But I just couldn't keep reading this book. The plot was reasonable and had some slightly interesting points, but I couldn't get past the prose. I'm not sure what this author is doing that doesn't work for me, but I could not finish this book. His characters felt fine, no more shallow or two dimentional than any other fantasy novel. I think that the problem may be that he spent too much time telling, not showing, and there was too much explanation of perfectly obvous things. I guess I felt like he was writing down to me.
