I was really excited to read this book before watching the movie on Netflix. This book did not do it for me on many levels. I will start with aspects of the book that I liked. The very detailed descriptions of the socio-political climate in India were interesting for me to read. I have always been interested in world politics and know that India has a very politically active society. Reading this book really gave me deep look into life in both the upper and lower classes of India in terms of social, economic, and political life, which I appreciated and learned from. However, where this book held a disconnect for me was the characters themselves. Now, I love a good anti-hero, but this book did not make me feel connected to the characters at all. In my opinion none of the characters progressed, if anything they digressed. Who wants to read about characters who don't change and if anything get worse, where again, in my opinion, the pay out is very low because there aren't many "good guys." Trust me, I get that this book is establishing a narrative for a "dog-eat-dog" world, however, I just did not enjoy or connect with the chacaters.

I loved it..I don't know why it has many negative reviews..It really shows us the real face of India..it compares what people claim our country is and what it really is.Though there wasn't a crystal clear reason why he killed Ashok..I liked the book.Though it could've been a little bit better..cause my expectations from a man booker prize winner was very high..
