A breathtaking, heartbreaking look at how mental illness affected one family. There are drawings, but not as graphically involved as something like Maus or Persepolis. Still, very much worth a read.

It's difficult to assign a star rating to a memoir, but this just wasn't for me. From the narrative itself to the images, the whole thing seemed very detached, with more research and tangents than actual memories.

This is even better on a re-read. However, this is not a traditional graphic novel and it's not an easy read either. Be prepared to think about your childhood and the family secrets hidden from the adults in your life.
