This book is the definition of sad passions, but it's far sadder than the movie.

The age difference between the main characters really bugged me when I read this. I'm disappointed that this is one of the most famous lgbtq books because it's not romantic or a healthy relationship.

Also, after reading this, I found out the author admitted to finding 12 year olds attractive, so this is a zero from me.

The plot was too slow, the relationship was problematic and toxic, the prose was beautiful though, but after the first few chapters it became too much and it felt like I was reading a poem in paragraph form...  I tried reading it to help get me back into reading more frequently, but I got filled with dread every time I picked it up. And every time I talked about it, I never had anything good to say. Maybe someday I will finish reading it, but for now, I will be taking a break from it.
