Yikes. I gave the first book 4 stars, but this was a letdown. šŸ˜¬ First of all, there's no plot. What is this book about, exactly? Fortuna's werewolf buddy, I guess, and some random old folks she's apparently close to. The entire thing felt like filler.
Cora's victory over her aunt was ridiculous. We don't get any explanation for how she was able to overpower the alpha. :|

Fortuna's emotions were so volatile and it didn't come across as a reflection of her trauma. She was just written weirdly. One moment she'll be snapping at Collith, then the next she's completely horny? Unprovoked? Like, Collith/Laurie/Oliver will do something completely mundane and suddenly Fortuna wants to drop her panties. She seems to think that cheating only counts if you've had penis-in-vagina sex. The amount of times she mentions her "core" or her "center"......

There were so many typos, along with odd turns of phrase. This was hilarious to me: "I was the fire to his ice. The shout to his whisper. The run to his walk." What kind of analogy is that, lmao šŸƒšŸ½ā€ā™€ļø The constant use of "male/female" in place of "man/woman" was gross. When those terms are used to refer to werewolves in their wolf forms, sure, I get that, but Fortuna refers to everyone this way. It creeps me out. Maybe this is a staple in fae fantasy that I'm unaware of, along with the use of the word "mate". I hated that too. I sighed with relief when Collith referred to himself as Fortuna's "husband" for once. šŸ¤£

We still haven't gotten an explanation for why Collith fell for her instantly. I have a bad feeling that will never be explained. I'm putting this series on hold, so I might never find out.

I liked this book, but where I gave the first one the benefit of the doubt (for not containing much/rushing a bit) because it was the first in a longer series, the second book didn't really build much up for the readers. It was mostly just tense because of the sexual attraction between two characters.

I'll probably continue the series at some point when I want a quick read, but for now I'd rather focus on other books from my TBR.

Many thoughts in head, & I donā€™t know how to rate this book. This definitely feels like an over-glorified Vampire Diaries meets supernatural episodeā€¦? It was like a fire I couldnā€™t look away from though at the same time? Fortuna is a bad bitch, but I donā€™t really feel that attached to anybody else? This reminded me a lot of Sarah J Maasā€™s writing & a lot of it was uncomfy & didnā€™t sit right with me & I really donā€™t know how to feel about what I just read. The ending definitely was unexpected and maybe Iā€™m just triggeredā€¦.? Perhaps Iā€™ll come back with a more cohesive review eventually but I amā€¦. Feeling

I honestly hated this & Iā€™m absolutely disgusted by it too. Firstly, the whole plot of this series is unoriginal, as it seemed like a bad copy of ACOTAR with a Bible story thrown in & adapted into a fantasy plot for good (well actually bad) measure. Then there were so many plot-holes & features that were dismissed or caused the plot itself to be hugely disjointed. And then finallyā€¦ making my blood run cold & me to feel physically sick, was how the resolution to the climax of the story became pure sexual assault & RAPE! It disgusts me so much that the author believed that was an acceptable plot, & Iā€™m so confused that Iā€™ve never heard any criticism of it before. I would absolutely not touch this series, in no way recommend it & with finality will not be continuing with the rest of the series. Itā€™s devastating that the latest book only came out a couple of days ago (this year in 2022!) & yet people continue to recommend it, despite the vile intents. With certainty I can say this will be my worst book of 2022. šŸš«
