No buildup whatsoever. The main leads' story seem to start and end so fast that I had no interest or liking to either of them and couldn't seem to care less when their romance were supposedly on the rocks.

“It doesn’t matter how much time passes between us, if you need me, I will always come for you.”

You know when you finish a book and it left such a profound impact on you that you just have to sit in silence with your thoughts for a while after finishing it? That’s exactly how I felt last night when I finished The Truth About Love. This book left me speechless. It is a right person wrong time/ second chance romance filled with so. much. angst.

Summer and Auden are the definition of soulmates. This books takes you on the journey of them falling in love, falling apart and desperately trying to find their way back to each other again. I really appreciated the way that this book handled mental health issues. It was tough to read some parts but I think Maisie wrote all of these moments with so much care.

I love Auden. He is so pure and has the best intentions, but damn if he didn’t make me so mad sometimes

“Our worlds may have changed, we may not know each other anymore, but that magic that was always between us is still there. We don’t belong to each other anymore, but our souls still reach for each other as if we do.”

“It doesn’t matter how much time passes between us, if you need me, I will always come for you.”

Summer-Raine and Auden were each other’s true love in high school, she broke his heart and she was broken. He was fighting demons just as his own mother did, and Summer was fighting demons of her own. After five years apart and a suicide attempt, he is back in her life, but things are different. His mother is now passed from suicide herself, and Summer is still a cutter. Auden coming back to help her is only hurting the two of them more. They realize they need to be apart for the sake of them both. She decides it’s time for rehab and they vow to wait for one another. Two years later, Summer shows up for Auden, and everything has changed.

The author’s note at the end said she wanted to write passion and fire and angst, and wanted to break the reader’s heart and put it back together again. Well indeed you did just this. The story and characters felt real, it was beautifully crafted, and the lovemaking was chefs kiss, because it didn’t feel like a smutty book. It was a story of firsts, true loves, soulmates, and broken hearts. It is definitely an emotional wrecker, and it was hard to see one of them let the other go, and feel the pain, but it was raw, and poetically beautiful in the end.
