Claire sees people as ghosts before they die. That’s how she knows it’s time for her to kill them. Claire has been getting away with murder (literally) for years, but now, someone knows her secret…

I absolutely loved every page of this book. Never has a serial killer been funnier! Claire quickly became one of my favorite book characters of all time. I don’t know that you’re supposed to love a serial-killing sociopath, but in Claire’s defense, they were bad people! …mostly 👀

I had no idea how this book was going to end! Wallace did a fantastic job of not revealing too much too early so you didn’t figure it all out before Claire did and the book was gripping the whole way through.

If you love a thriller and deadpan British humor, this is the book for you!

I enjoyed the book and i was excited to see how ridiculous it got. I laughed out loud and get that claire is witty, world-hating, murderer. I liked the exploration of grief through a serial's perspective.

The fatphobia was very distateful.

The UK specific racism was highly informative.

i finished this book in 24 hours, could not put it down. thought for the first half it was definitely going to be 5 stars from me, but i’ve seen other reviews say they felt towards the end it fell a bit flat and i agree. also TW:
elder abuse, couldn’t find the right trigger warning tag.

claire doesn’t have much of a personality beyond hating everyone, and literally every other character is empty and unlikeable. the advertised (dry) humor in the book isn’t really there, either, but instead feels extremely underwhelming and is presented as the internal monologue of a clearly neurodivergent person, but i did exhale through my nose a few times, if that counts. the story was pretty unique in an american psycho/dexter kind of way with a lot of good twists, so it has that going for it.

i dunno, i had much higher hopes.
