Good ideas, but very repetitive and not novel. Appreciated the actionable steps at the end but don't think it's worth it getting to them.

I'm glad that storygraph has quarter star ratings, because I think this book is close to 4 stars. It's an older book so maybe 5-10% of the struggles the author presented are now out-of-date, but it was a good read overall. So why 3.75 stars? Well, it's because I felt like the author didn't detail how to tackle some of these stressors until the very end of the book. He does a great job outlining problems, but you don't really get suggestions until the tail end. Overall a great read though!!

Boring. Endless summaries of participant studies. Published 20 years ago and felt very dated.

A good book, more of philosophical rather than providing practical paradigms. A scientifically backed research would have been very illustrative to understand the choice making procedure that the mind goes through.

ok lowkey ended up just skimming this because his point came across pretty clearly by the first chapter and everything else was just really repetitive.

I have never read a book that was so clearly written by a boomer before. So much supposition based on the authors opinions of morality and so many scientific studies briefly mentioned and twisted to prove the point the author wanted to make. Also the audacity to say the book was updated in 2016 and then still discuss video stores before mentioning streaming. The author had a good premise but ruined it with his out of touch viewpoints and lazy use of science

Good review of the psychology of choice and how ir relates to mental health in contemporary society.

In brief having more choice is not always better and can in fact lead to worse and less satisfying decisions.
