this is completely insane. everyone is kinda awful, Thom is blatantly unlikeable, the plot is horrific and unbelievable. i was kinda having fun with it because of how terrible these people are (it's giving a toned down version of veep but not funny). but i doubt i'll finish it. i'm already losing interest and already sped up the audiobook, and the reviews don't give a good impression of the ending.

It's like Red White and Royal Blue if Alex from that book was a shitty person.

I didn't like either of the main characters
The main characters were just there. I wasn't really invested in their story. You could see they both had feelings for each other early on but it wasn't really explored until the very end. The end was way too fast for me. Lots of build up and then they just lived happily ever after.
(I had specific examples but I tried not to include any spoilers)

2.5⭐️s I really wanted to like this more and there were alot of elements that I liked, but I feel like there was hardly any development of Tom and Clays relationship. Tom is presented (and self identifies) as straight at the beginning of the book and it just seems out of no where that he develops an attraction to Clay. He is so rude to Clay in the beginning that it makes this out of no where attraction seem even less believable.

ok my original review was going to be something along the lines of “thom morgan put his long brown hair into a messy bun and went downstairs to find lennie sold him to one direction” but then i saw the words “beta read” in the third line of the acknowledgements and now actually i don’t think it’s that funny anymore

I could not put this novel down, although it was not a fuzzy romance. It was different from other fake-boyfriend-novels. Thom was an ice-cold manipulator and I am not sure if I hoped for him to become a better human.
Narration was good.
