Ok, I know this is an older book, but I seriously love the story of Fleur and Jake.
tf did i just read. romance?? fluff?? chicklit?? no this is self-help. or like, a cry for help. this was what you call a doozy. we got everything, from the teenage days of fleur's mother, all the way to flear and jake in adulthood, married with kids. this wasn't a book this was a goddamn TOME about the human struggle and corrupt billionaires (mostly about the billionaires tho, rich people were unhinged in this book [o hey! like in the words of fleurs mom, famous people don't have to follow the rules!!]). the best way to describe the book is this quote:
"What's my tragic flaw?" Fleur asked.
Kissy thought for a moment.
"Shitty parents."
once i stopped looking at this as a romance, i loved every moment. this was drama at its finest and i ate up every word. i don't even want to talk about it honestly, you have to read it to understand.

4 stars for the romance - 5 stars for Fleur.
The opening of this story through me a little bit when suddenly were in the past and seeing Fleur's mother's story for a bit. But once things got started rolling Fleur's life is definitely a journey. I really felt for her and what she was going through. She really grows up in this book. There's so much she has to come to grips with, with her past and her parents. I loved her story. The downside was really that I didn't feel like the emotional relationship between Fleur and Jake was developed all that well. Their interactions seemed secondary to a lot of other elements in the book. Especially when they first met on set. I didn't feel like Jake's sudden change in feelings felt all that organic. Their reunion did feel more invested though which helped. But really this is all Fleur's story and I did love being in her head.

I bought this for a quarter at a book sale. Had I paid any more, I might have cared that it really wasn't very good (and I say this as someone who historically reads and enjoys romance novels).
She does it again.
This was not at all what I thought it was going to be and it really threw me off when we started with Belinda’s story. However, one of the many many many things I love about SEP’s writing is the way she sets up a narrative. Without having an in depth knowledge of Belinda and Alexi’s story and personalities, the events that followed would not have had the same impact. At first you’re thinking why do we need so much back story, but as you continue you realize that it’s all THE story. It was all part of the make up that is the Glitter Baby. That is Fleur.
I loved the way we moved so naturally through the years and went on this journey with Fleur. It was a saga really of self discovery and executed with perfect Susan Elizabeth Phillips style. Amazing.

I have a handful of SEP books in a keeper box under my bed. This book will not be joining them. I almost DNF-ed it several times, but I pushed through. I mean, it wasn’t as bad as Fancy Pants, which I never finished, but it wasn’t all that far behind. It’s my second least favorite book of hers now.

Rating: 3.5*
Review: This book confuddles me on so many levels:
1) Can I really shelve this is romance if only 25% of the book contains interaction between the couple and the other 75% reads like a biography of a former-model and her fame-hungry mother?
2) Why the hell is this book part of the "Wynette, Texas" series when none of it actually takes place in Texas?!
3) Is it possible to say that I was really interested in this book but didn't actually like it?! I have so many mixed feelings about it (which include pure dislike for Alexi and Belinda) that I can't tell if I actually ended up enjoying it or not.
