Lmaoo it’s how problematic this book really is for me.

I’m all for a kinky, good smut book however the beginning of this for me was just not it. Our main, push over heroine gets saved from a rapist for her to eaten out by her future love interest?? Wild to me that she could be receiving of this after such a traumatic incident - let alone desire to be around men.

I thought the relationships between other people in Sabrina’s life (her sister and the friend who encouraged her to be around her abusers!!?) we’re just not built out. She just has these random text messages with her sister that only push the plot into some other direction. I feel like we could have built out these relationships more.

Let’s get into our male protagonist Donovan.

Honestly I don’t not understand how this girl could even want this rude ass motherfucker. All he did was belittle her and make her feel an inch small then make out with her. Also he’s clearly fucking tapped and she’s like I still want him ???? Girl he had a whole file on you over the years why the fuck would you not want to run far far away from this man.

I enjoyed this and will continue with the series. Just be aware that this book is a two-parter. Much like the Meghan March novels, this one ends in a cliffhanger. Have "Dirty Filthy Rich Love" ready to go.

Ok so this was my first foray into audiobooks and I could not imagine a better book to start with! I found this on Spotify and decided to try this instead of music on my walk on Sunday and I now may only listen to books on my walk.
This book is about the roller coaster (and when I say roller coaster I feel that may be a nicer description- hurricane, tornado, tsunami may all be better descriptions) of a relationship between Sabrina Lind (a freshman at Harvard when we first meet her) and Donovan Kincaid (a TA for Sabrina’s ethic’s lecture and from what I gathered a senior or graduate student at Harvard). After a very brief view into their interaction at Harvard, we fast forward 10 years and find them both meeting again in the professional world and let me tell you the heat between these two did not die over ten years (if anything I think it got hotter and I was not even sure that was possible). Mix in a best friend/potential competition and you have a seriously good read!
There is no sugar coating it- Donovan Kincaid is an overbearing, dominating ass (and if my need for therapy was not confirmed in other books I’m reading, it certainly is confirmed after reading this because why do I find men that annoying and domineering attractive?) but I couldn’t help but continue to turn the page to see just how Sabrina would fire back at him. She may resign herself to some things but she has a fire in her and definitely can hold her own and push buttons when it comes to Donovan. There is also a somewhat sweeter side to Donovan that is very well written as an undertone to his character (trust me when I say that you really get a glance at just how caring Donovan can be as the book progresses). Is it at times potentially overbearing and could end up being problematic? Yes. Did that detract from my attraction to a fictional man like Donovan? Not at all (again therapy is probably needed blah blah blah).
I will mention that there are some trigger warnings to be wary of (sexual assault being the main one along with heavy alpha male emphasis) but I found myself unable to stop listening/reading this book (may have discovered that I’ve owned it since 2018 and have never picked is up…whoops). When I saw I have never raced so fast to pick up the next book just to see what happens….
This is certainly a darker, dirtier (very very DIRTY), sinful read but if you can handle the TW’s, it is certainly a read that should be added to your TBR.
Favorite Quotes:
“Talk, Sabrina. Talk or I’ll find a way to make you talk, I swear to God.”
“Because I want you to scare me, and you know it. Because the way you’re vile fits the way I’m vile.”
“I told you before how you could fix your grades if you’re that concerned about it.”
