The atrocities Flame and Maddie faced as children and adults is horrifying. Reading about it all was really uncomfortable. I was happy they found solace in each other, but as with the last book, I wish there had been some mental health help for them.

I was happy Cain finally clued into what was really going on in the cult, its teachings, and the falsities being preached. BUT I wish the cult had gone bye bye in the last book. I know it's a big lead up to future books, but my heart and head can only handle reading so much about it. Which is why, this will probably be my last book in the series. At least for a while.

CW: child physical and sexual abuse, violence, murder, blood, cult/new religious order, kidnapping

Flame and Maddie about broke my damn heart every other chapter.

I think I cried more at the tiniest of things because they were monumental steps for both of them.

I think the author did an amazing job and depicting both of their traumas and their journey to healing.

The drawing at the end crushed my soul, I felt Maddie’s longing.

1/5 on the spice scale. I’m only rating what happened between the two main characters. I don’t consider anything that happened before as spicy because that shit was rape and not in any way shape or form, sex. But the scenes between Maddie and Flame, so fucking sweet and beautiful.
