Stalked by the Kraken is one of my favorite monster romances, featuring a slight mystery plot with an added bonus of a totally obsessed MC, magic, spice, and a lovable FMC. The story follows Rose, a witch who manages her family's bathhouse. When she notices they are not outputting enough magic; she hires someone to figure out where the magic has disappeared to. The investigator, Gideon, offers his services to her in order to get closer to Rose as she is his mate.

Rose and Gideon are so sweet and lovable, I loved how the two came together and grew to love each other. Gideon was so obsessed and willing to do anything to make Rose his; despite his obsession, I loved how he was always sure to get her consent and make sure she was comfortable in their relationship. This is definitely a romance focused plot but I loved it nonetheless and recommend it to any monster lover out there!

I adored these two characters, and their development rich and emotional as much as it was passionate. Lark expertly plays with the balance between emotional desire and indulgence.

I read some other Monstrous Matches before this one, and it was great to view Rose more intimately, and see some of her struggles and motivations.  Gideon was everything I wanted from a monster MC: obsessed with her, total sweetheart, very powerful and deadly.

Overall another great Lillian Lark!

this book was actually surprisingly good. like plot wise.

the whole concept of the bathhouse and harvesting sex magic was actually really cool and positive and consensual????? which is really rare for this genre.

the entire relationship dynamic between rose and gideon was very healthy (besides the mild stalking which tbh, compared to the shit i’ve read, was not that bad). kinky as fuck, sure. but open communicators? definitely. like slayyyy thx for not being rapey. i appreciate it!

but ummmm, the whole rose’s ex being a billionaire playboy who was running a human trafficking ring and conducting a slave auction at the building next to the bathhouse??? weird as fuck. also… WHO ACTS LIKE THAT DURING A TRAFFICKING RING BUST???? like who the fuck cares if he said y’all weren’t mates?! there’s twenty women with fucking magic torture collars wearing rags who were just freed bro. why you running out of there dramatically like it’s prom.

tldr: the plot totally could’ve been developed a lot more. sure a lot of it was cringey in a fanfiction typa way but again, compared to most of the books in this genre it was better than most. rose and gideon we’re cute tho, and the sex positive messages as well as the world building were fucking phenomenal so yay!!!

i def will be reading more from this author.

This lovely book took place in the same universe as Lillian’s Three of Hearts book (which is also amazing) and brings us Rose and Gideon’s story. Rose is a match-making witch that works at her family’s very original Love Bathhouse. She has lost some confidence from recent events in her life, but she is still very clearly all about owning her intimate experiences and finding power in that. Gideon is a KRAKEN and an eternally lonely boy that I wanted to snuggle up to and never let go of! His internal creature spots Rose and deliciousness unfolds from there. This is a cozy read that I will definitely be putting into my reread pile. The plot of this book is so original and has depth and mystery that can sometimes be missing from romance books. However, the awesome plot does not take away from the spice of this book! Gideon is so hot and possessive and he and Rose have some physical entanglements that will have you sweating! If all of that doesn’t entice you, but you love office supplies, then this book is also for you!
