Reading this book as a kid and adult are different. When I was younger this volume seemed so much longer and really full of wonder, I remember how dark and sinister the whole thing felt to me. Reading it now, I've found that it took on a different quality. In all fairness I had a busy month, so I couldn't really tell you much about the pacing of The Darkest Hour because the way I read it was so disjointed, but the thing that stands out in the book is just how brutual it all seems. In a good way. Firestar is young but is thrust into leadership, he's in over his head. So many cats make decisions that drag them right away from being boring stock characters (Bramblepaw and Tawnypaw, notably) and into exciting and problematic territory. The scene with Stonefur is shocking, the scene where Scourge killed Tigerstar even more so because it all just happened so fast???? It threw the reader through one last loop because the fight we have been anticipating all this time, the lengendary meeting of Firestar and Tigerstar in battle... just never happens. Scourge really does come out of nowhere, which sits kind of uncomfortably for me, but he's the enemy they all had to face at one point. Uniting the clans as one had to be done, with still some room for future conflict (I'm talking about that sassy af line where Firestar is like "don't forget that I saw what u did to Stonefur, Blackfoot.")

I particularly liked the small scene before the battle between Firestar and Whitestorm, and I get the impression that Whitestorm might not have liked Firestar as much as he let on in the book. He's an interesting character and I really hope I get to see more from him when I return to the super editions? Maybe one of his own? Who knows.

Darkstripes death was just funny tbh. He's so loserly.

The scene that moved me the most was when Firestar received his nine lives. Those few pages were like a pocket of every emotion we as readers have felt for the characters so far, and there is something so special and nostalgic about this series. I'm so glad it's lasted so long.

I’m glad that I know that there are more books to follow this one, it’s both a “happy ending” and a cliffhanger. I want to know how the clans are doing!!! Luckily for me I have the following series and have already read it lol

Funny note, in my version, at one point Tigerstar was called Tigerpaw! When he should have been called Tigerclaw lol I think that was the only mistake I caught

A good little series that leaves you wanting more.

A good finale for the first series of Warriors.

Did kinda think it was odd how there was a new villain for like, the last 10% of the book, but it wasn't Terrible. Might have been a little better if he wasn't introduced and killed off in the last book.
