Wanted to finish this fast, like Curley’s wife. Let’s go ahead and give Colleen Hoover a Nobel peace prize because wtf is this.

Title was very misleading, no mice. Tbh was pretty boring. The entire book is just dialogue and nothing happens for the majority of the book. Was disappointed. The book felt pointless and stupid. Terrible classic. (forced to read for school)

I need to reread but it’s a good book. Loved chapter 4, I wrote a poem on the black guy’s incarceration (it’s been two years, I don’t remember names). Ending goes crazy.

Read it for school as I'm sure most people did. It's alright; way shorter than I thought it would be. The writing is good, but it also comes across as a little bit whiney and pessimistic, and it ends up sounding like every other book written and set in that era of time. It's extremely hard to like any of the characters, which might be the point but it made it kind of a slog to read even though it's so short.

Of mice and men is set on a farm in California. It definitely isn't my usual type of read but I found the morals of the story very interesting. One thing I noticed is that Steinbeck explores different types of prejudice and discrimination in this book and there is a character for each type. Curley's wife represents sexism, Crooks represents racism, Candy represents ageism and Lennie represents discrimination towards people with mental disablilities. Just to note, there's some vulgar language the other characters say towards these people but I don't think that Steinbeck meant it personally; he just wanted to show the reality of the 1930s.
