This was an interesting read.

Since being published it's been revealed that this is not actually a true story, which I kind of picked up on when I read it. It just came across as a bit too preachy and juvenile, and was a bit heavy-handed on the whole horror of drugs thing.

Apparently it has scared quite a few teenagers off trying drugs though, so that's a plus in my book.

It starts out too authentic for a diary - just as dull as reading an actual teen's diary - and quickly becomes unauthentic, you know, describing things a little too conveniently. The narrative is also a bit broken up, you have to either accept that the author is dishonest frequently or that there is much story not included - which makes sense if it's a real diary. But I know it's not. So... I just feel like it was lazy.

Also I wondered about the way a modern teen would read it - if the groovy 60s vibe would come off as just 'cute'.

I, of course, care passionately that the narrator buying a fringe vest and flattening her hair is NOT a warning sign. There seemed to be a very typical mistake of fashion for culture. Also, there are a few places that heavily imply that homosexuality is a side-affect of drug use! Like, OMG!
