I learned a lot about Kenyan history and politics! Maathai was clearly a phenomenal woman and leader. Some sections of the book felt a little too detailed, while others lacked color. I also felt that Maathai wasn’t critical enough of the Christian missionaries and their educational system for how they undermine and sought to eliminate native culture and language.

The riveting story of Nobel Peace Prize winning Maathai is inspiring and compelling. The extraordinary life of this freedom fighter is brought into beautiful focus through her memoir and the tales of her struggles and triumphs. So much information and rich immersion into Kenyan life and politics was revealed in stunning detail. Absolutely wonderful!
