I worried in the first 40 pages I wasn’t going to love this as much as I usually love Sarah Gailey’s books, but then I was hooked and rest almost the entire book in one day. Loved it! Is the mystery a little predictable? Sure. But I didn’t mind. Because I was so invested in what Sarah Gailey does best, their characters. Their characters are always so full of depth and messy and I love exploring their relationships with each other. Anyway I haven’t read a book this fast in months, I loved reading this.

Content warnings: gore, body horror, murder, death of a loved one, death of a parent, cancer, alcoholism, abortion.

This is another one where the premise is more interesting than the execution. Such a slog to get through. Wasn’t super invested until a little past the halfway mark and then it ends like that? Ugh. So anticlimactic. There are some good bits…very few good bits, but they are there.

TW: abortion, cancer, parent death, some body gore

An astonishing mix of noir and magic with a mix of complicated sibblings relationships and the lies we tell ourselves. I loved everything in this book, the characters (Ivy and Tabitha the most well fleshed out), the school and the mystery.
Even though I suspected about it before it was cleared, the resolution was true to the cuore of the story. What held me back for the 5 stars was that truly noir ending with no hint of magic or healing. But it is completely understandable.
