decent thriller! not the best by this author but it entertained me for a day or two.

it was difficult because we are forced to read three quarters of a book where we know that ryan is obviously evil, so there is very little tension. obviously the dad will discover something is wrong, but nothing other than the structure of the book and thriller tropes suggests that. makes it quite frustrating to read occasionally haha

i enjoyed ryan pov at the end. very sinister. but i wish there had been a bigger reveal or plot twist or something! just felt like going through the motions to get to the end of the story.

I've read many good reviews about this book and I have to say that it certainly lived up to the hype. It's not the most jaw-dropping shocking psychological thriller I've read, but the author certainly knows how to build suspense. It was my bed time reading and I found myself excited for bed time so I could pick it up again.

It was a bit of a slow build and sometimes I found myself wishing something drastic would happen, but I guess that's what keeps you on the edge of your seat reading. The ending was slightly predictable, but still satisfying.

A great suspenseful thriller and a likeable main character (Ed). The pace really picked up towards the end and I found myself flying through the pages. It was clever and quite interesting, especially when Ed started properly stalking Ryan. Definitely recommended!

This book was very quick paced. There isn’t a twist so if you’re looking for one don’t read this book it’s pretty predictable. The ending was a little rushed but it was interesting.

I never enjoy giving lesser stars to books, however this one was a disappointment.

I have really grown to love thrillers this year, and had high expectations for The Catch after seeing such great reviews. However, I just felt the story fell awfully flat.

I found that it was quite slow paced, and at times I was willing something to happen. The book seemed to be dragged out, and could definitely be 100 or so pages less. The one thing I really did love about this book was Ed, the father. It’s very clear he would do absolutely anything for his family, and that becomes apparent throughout with the lengths he’d go to do that.

I just really feel like we could’ve seen more from the ‘boyfriend’. I don’t want to give anything away, but it would’ve been great to see him more as a villain.

I also really did not like the ending. Oh well…

When first reading this book a thought came to me regarding the voice I’m reading. The main character's perspective is a father. It occurred to me I’ve not read many books where I’m reading from a male perspective. I seem to read those where it’s a female perspective and in the majority of cases a female author. I think I need to broaden my character perspectives and authors as well as genres.

I felt a sense of anxiety within me through the first part of the book. Maybe it was a suspenseful feeling, knowing that something was going to happen. But that feeling soon changed and I found the book easy to read once I got into it. I was even thinking of little phrases like ‘don’t do that’ or ‘O no’ and ‘ooo’ while I was picturing the story in my head. I was trying to work out where the storyline was going and figuring out who was the victim and the perpetrator. I got to a point in the second half when I thought ‘ahh’ and had a theory in my head. It’s good to know some of my instincts towards my theory were right. Knowing where the story was going didn’t take away how well written the story was and the author made it clear whose perspective you are reading. I think my anxious feelings dropped it half a star but otherwise, I did enjoy it. Not enough to want to keep the book but I would pick it up again in the future at the library to read again.
