I don't wanna do it......but I gotta put this in as a DNF. I didn't hate it. And maybe one day I'll pick it back up. But the 30% I read, happened over two days (not consecutively). Finishing it just seems tantalizing. I feel like this would make a better tv show than book. Too many details, days repeating themselves without much development. And when there was, the excitement didn't make up for the waiting. I'm sure it does pick up, otherwise it wouldn't have such high reviews or multiple books in the series. I just can't get myself to keep reading to find out.

This series holds a spot in my heart forever, I’ve been around since book one waiting weekly for the updates, then once published getting the kindle versions and soon the physical ones.
I’ve read this series over and over, once again for every book released and every single time is like the first time, I feel like I’m teleported to that era, I’m living out Lillian’s life, I relate to her personality so well, there are layers upon layers that you get to see. Seeing glimpses of Ambrose is enough to tease you, to keep you going back for more, their relationship building in the background built off more then physical attraction, why Ambrose is drawn to her, all those qualities she is shunned for is the stuff he respects most about her. They are both stubborn to hell but that works for them, they both push each other to grow.
I can’t help but feel every emotion in this, I’m laughing one minute, tense in others, yelling at Ambrose through the screen and then just ugly crying. At times the plot feels slow but I feel it’s like that so you can really absorb the chapter before, let it sink in before getting more information delivered. And once those couple of chapters have past you are at the edge of your seat never knowing what way things will turn out, how anyone will handle it or act. And as a bonus you do get a bit of a history lesson.

This series I found randomly, it’s definitely something that would have been last on any list to read but it surprised me and for that I think that’s why I fell on love with it. The series isn’t for everyone and some of you just might not enjoy it as the romance isn’t in your face (yet) but that’s what makes it worth it, the pay off with this series is worth it.

My book club wanted to read a male-written book with a female POV and this was exactly what we expected. Easily one of the most unlikeable female protagonists and is the epitome of what a man would believe a woman is like in her own thoughts and actions through work and love. The author constantly infantilizes her (even in her own head), makes her never shut up, and can’t follow a single breadcrumb. It’s perfectly the book we expected in that it was an affront to women and egregiously long. Absolutely fantastic hate read!
