So, this is the second book following Cassidy Blake and her adventures around the haunted landmarks of Europe. And I have to say, I enjoyed it as much as the first one.

I’m really intrigued by the world that Schwab has created here, the passing between this world and the Veil, how the ghosts interact with each other but also with the outside world, and the concept of a millennial ghost is hilarious to me.

Given the history of France, and of Paris in particular, it’s no surprise that this is the setting for this second book. But, what I did enjoy was the delving into the history around things like the catacombs that may not be as general knowledge as other sights and landmarks.

I’m so pleased that I picked this series up now and I can’t wait to move on to the third one!

For the second book entry into the Cassidy Blake series, Cassidy and her family, who happen to be ghost hunters and the hosts of the paranormal TV show The Inspecters go to Paris to do some paranormal investigation. First stop: the catacombs! And when Cass mistakenly frees a poltergeist from the catacombs, she and her spectral best friend, Jacob, must race against the clock to stop it before it wreaks irrevocable havoc on all of Paris. On top of all this, it doesn't help that Cassidy is tasked by Lara with using her ability to travel into the Veil and send ghosts on. Cassidy has been testing out her new abilities – all while secretly fearful that she’ll one day have to use them to send her best friend, Jacob, “on.” For now though, she has got to stop a poltergeist.

This was enjoyable sequel to City of Ghosts, one that deepens the mythology and worldbuilding of the series. Cassidy continues to be a wonderful heroine and a believable pre-teen. This is a great middle grade horror-mystery book, whose creepy subject matter and themes of friendship and family should appeal to fans of Neil Gaiman's children/young adult books such as The Graveyard Book.

I look forward to the third book in the series and more Harry Potter references.

"It is important to take care of the past. To revisit it, to study and learn. Understanding the past helps us to move through the present and discover the future."

This book was even more tense than the last and the stakes felt so much higher. As the poltergeist moves from mischief to menace to mayhem, Cass, her parents and the whole of Paris are in danger. For such a quick read, the emotions that this story creates are very intense and I felt on edge for the whole book. I would have liked more detail but once again this is explained by the age demographic of the book.

Very enjoyable, and the cliff hanger has guaranteed that I will pick up the next book.

This had so much heart to it! Especially compared to the first book in the series. The writing/flow improved as well.

The “case” Cass and Jacob are on isn’t particularly or extraordinarily unique, but it is spooky in areas. And the character development we get with Jacob is excellent. The ghostie in this one tugged at my heart strings as well. Definitely a good one all around, and I can’t wait to see what happens next with Jacob and Cass in the next installment.

My only critique is that as much as I adore Harry Potter, there were a bit too many references to it in this book.
