Slow start and somewhat clunky language at times (I had to pretend it wasn’t a period piece or it would hurt my brain too much), but really solid Gothic themes and chilling plot. 

Content Warnings: 
- Heavy incest themes(as is often the case with Gothic lit)
- There are also a few near-sexual assaults, all of which are diffused pretty quickly with mild repercussions, but there are definite themes of lack of autonomy/consent in this novel
