Firstly, the mention of Sor Juana took me by surprise and nearly made me cry. So good to see her being talked about even if it’s only two lines. The book was incredibly atmospheric, interesting and clever. It had me gripped and pulling cringed faces all the way through. It’s a clever idea that givens science to haunting and the concept behind it was truly intriguing. Glad I have finally read a SMG book, especially since I have her whole collection! On to the next!

Wow! This is a play on classic gothic revival novels combined with a modern horror sensibility and Mexican history. This book has atmosphere in spades, and Noemí is a great character. Her voice is snappy and fun, and I love seeing a character doing her best to take charge even in the situation she's in.

Once the twist hits this book swings for the fences, and while I did think the last couple of chapters dragged on a bit too long overall I really liked this.

Ohhh boy was that a lot. Yikes. It was so good, super engaging and really going for it with the gothic vibes, which was very aesthetically satisfying. The ending took everything up like 1,000 levels, was pretty gross, and has probably left me with some kind of reader's PTSD, but hey, it made for a striking novel. Still five stars overall

I got into it at the first few chapters. By the last third, I struggled with the pace a bit. None of the characters really endeared themselves to me - except that old lady with the bird.
