short + sweet. lotta darwin tbh. WORMS!! history + ecology of earthworms. worms are invasive in some forests??? and the funding to study them is so nonexistent that one of the best taxonomists is actually a truck driver for a day job and discovers new worms on the side. composting and human waste/pollution solutions. certain giant worms going extinct. organic foods can be grown at the same capacity as traditional farming if you have a healthy number of worms????

I once heard a farmer say this: “the problem with the way we farm now is that we treat our soil like dirt.”
Nothing earth-shattering for me but still a fine read. Interesting to learn some more about Darwin.

Today I learned, that I know very little about gardening... but now I know a lot about worms. Including the fact that most worms, especially night crawlers enjoy a good petting.

Pretty neat book! Not a technical "how to compost" book or anything--a neat and interesting history of the worm and how much of an impact that they have on the world. It's one of those it sounds weirder than it really is kinda reads. :D

A strange book full of fascinating facts about the life of worms, and what they do for us. The book is put together of a lonigst summary of Darwin's research into worms (a little too long one might say), travels to interesting worm places to talk to worm people, and then the story is bookended by the reason this lady fell in love with worms: Gardening. While there are a lot of interesting things to learn about worms and their doing (in water & waste management for instance, there is also a little bit many tedious ventures into the science of worms, fangirling on Darwin and admiring the awesomeness of worms.

You will never take these little slimy crawlers for granted again... an amazing narrative that forces you to think about other living creatures besides humans.

Finally had to give up on this one. Started out strong, then just became a bit repetitive and lost my interest. Disappointing, as it is a great topic, but perhaps should have been an extended essay rather than full length book.
