A book that is completely based on the Greek Gods existing in modern America. The main character, Percy, is a young boy, who has ADHD and a rather annoying step-dad. When he gets kicked out of another school, he finds himself meddled with a complicated situation.

The book is fun and entertaining with lots of on-going action. Unfortunately, I believe that the information on the Gods could be explained better, so that it can be educational to the youngins as it is a middle grade book.

Funny, beautiful, adventurous. The writing style is attention grabbing. The storyline of
the mother's abusive relationship
was handled with a surprising amount of grace for a children's book, coming from someone who is critical of the blithe writing around women.

This was the first time I've re-read The Lightning Thief in over a decade and it still holds up. The non stop fast pace of the book mixed with the characters sass and wit just makes for a great read. For me this book accomplishes exactly what it sets out to do, so it will always be a 5🌟 read for me. Excited to continue on with the rest of the series.

Pretty fun, I’m definitely no longer part of the target demographic. I’d seen the movie and listened to the audiobook with my fiancé over a few months listening during our bedtime routine. Character development is definitely there, but it is plot driven following what is needed of the characters and that is dictated by the concept of fate in the universe. I wouldn’t call the cast diverse, it’s two powerful white god children and it definitely does fall intro the trope of a token character of color being more animalistic with Grover being a satyr with such focus on his goat-like features and characteristics. Not super deeply engaging, but fun. Scenes with the mother and her husband definitely problematic and confusing. Odd choice.
