WHAT WHAT WHAT WHAT
Backstory crumbs from Richard in this one! Richard was projecting so hard man, like, I know you're hiding something from Seigi!! Mr. Homura was also saying something about it, too. I don't think I was as satisfied with this volume, but I like the direction it's going in.

If there are stones that had a special effect when they’re given as a gift, I think you could say the same for human kindness—just like how the person you like telling you they love you can have a special effect on you.
I don't know how to feel about this installment in the series. I liked the different cases, except for perhaps the last one. We definitely see more progress in terms of Richard and Seigi's relationship. The two are obviously fond of one another, and there are multiple instances throughout the book where people believe they're together.
I liked that we see more of Richard here. Instead of being annoyed or simply beautiful, we see him treat Seigi with softness, get defensive, even angry. He's slowly opening up more and more, and Seigi savors every new closeness in their friendship.
That being said, Seigi still describes his feelings for Richard as mostly gratitude towards an elder brother. This is the same person who thinks time stops when Richard smiles at him, mind you. Seigi's feelings for Tanimoto are still strong, and while one of the focuses of this book seems like a final resolution to Seigi and Tanimoto's will they/won't they friendship, the possibility of two of them dating remains woefully unresolved.
Overall, a fun but unsatisfying read. Hopefully the next one is more fulfilling.

Spoiler
I was happy to see what seems to be Tanimoto being on the asexual spectrum explored, but even that was not treated well. We get hints of her being somewhere on the spectrum, and while Seigi initially - and rightly, in my opinion - chooses to respect that, Richard pushes him to confess (possibly because he was planning on leaving the country, and thought it would do good to have Seigi settled). Tanimoto's asexuality is then left hanging and she says she'll give romantic love a chance in the future. Ugh.Overall, a fun but unsatisfying read. Hopefully the next one is more fulfilling.

Unlike the previous two books, this has more focus on Richard and Seigi and I am very excited to see how they develop!
The cases in this book was less dry and there was less gemstone history. I actually appreciate that. Honestly though, I still find the cases forgettable. The first story was about a husband and wife, um, I don't understand what the lesson is. And then the second story worth the conman ended with not much of a consequence. I was surprised when it wrapped up. And packed up.
Story got better starting with he third story be sure that was when Richard's story began and there were more hints. I am willing to continue the series only to find out more about them. I really don't care much about the cases.
