Not an easy read, but of course a crucial part of the overall Biblical story. This time through, what struck me most was the contrast between God's harsh discipline with the Israelites in the wilderness — the strictness of the purity requirements, and the desperate need to maintain them — with God's providence as he prevents Balaam from cursing the Israelites, causing him to bless them instead.

so, last year, i decided to read the entire hebrew bible, but due to certain events in my life, such as university (i'm done with my degree btw), i had to pause, on the the second chapter of isaiah. there were days where i thought i should continue, but i had lost all drive to read. until recently. currently reading melville's moby dick, which has a ton of references to scripture. chapter 9 in particular has a preacher character retell the story of jonah in such an interesting way, i had to check it out for myself.

i'm sorry, this doesn't really have anything to do with this book in particular, but i had to tell someone this. amd this might just be the push i needed to continue the book of isaiah

Paul is so happy with Philemon, Apphia, and Archippus and their house church because of their love and faith in Jesus. Paul's letter is sent so that Philemon et al receive his "adopted son," Onesimus. It appears Onesimus probably had a not-so-positive past as a servant and maybe abused the geniality of Philemon et al., but Paul is imploring them to forgive his debt (or give them to Paul!) and to receive him as a brother in Christ.

Not that much story and a while lot of names, people being killed and rules for biting stuff for the man in the sky.

Good: Jews in the desert with Moses(they were like are we there yet and God was like if you don't shut up I will throw you out of this car going 70 on the freeway, and then he was like fuck it and there them out anyway)

Bad: laws, offering(so many fucking offerings)

I was so excited about this whale I'd heard about....but once again the bible has let me down.

They were on a boat the ocean was super rough. The people were like who's fault is it that we are going to die. Jonah was like it's me my god is mad at me, you should throw me over board. So they did. Then he spent four days in the belly of a fish. Then he got out. The end.

I wish I could give this less then 1 star.
