Painful and utterly atrocious. Thus far the series has been ridiculously dialogue heavy and dearth of description. The characters are underwhelming, the narrator, monotonous, and the story, dull with notes of bigotry.

The only reason this gets 3 stars is because it does sufficient fan service for fans of the Foundation series. The power of the series is Asimov's ability to explore philosophical concepts but simultaneously dive deep into individual characters. (This is pretty much the point of the whole series, the relationship between the individual and the masses). Its especially disappointing that at the end the book Asimov just makes the Second Foundation into mutants / superhumans which makes them pretty much the same as the Mule.

Oh well.
