A heartbreaking book that is still hopeful. Told her story in a well written way while being brutally honest.

I first heard her talk on the Cults and Consciousness podcast, and was interested in hearing more from her. I would recommend this to many people.

My only complaint would be that the end of the army portion dragged a tinge more. But it wasn't bad, and it was needed to tell the story.

This book was so good. As a fellow female veteran, who  experienced the Army around the same time as the author, so much of her experience rang true. It’s both disappointing and comforting to hear that other women had such similar experiences.

I understand that is it important to share these stories but the content is incredibly graphic and just not something I can read in my current mental state

A window into what it’s like to live inside both a religious extremist cult (Children of God) and a socially acceptable group with cult-like traits (The US Army). The author does the difficult job of reliving these experiences to share how her traumas followed her through life, and her strength to keep going. Very moving, and so heartbreaking.
