This is when Alan Moore figured out how to correctly write for the talents of J H Williams III. The art is gorgeous, some people are saying it's too much but I think that's the point. I hate minimalist art these days, I want to feel like the art is overtaking my brain. As if I'm not consuming it, it's consuming me

Dropped this one real fast.
The good: the art's pretty accomplished, the colors especially. By far my favorite thing about the comic.
The bad: too much exposition, exposition I sadly don't care about, as occultism isn't a topic that has ever interested me. It could, but if it were to happen, this is not the place to start. Other than that the absence of characterization makes the reading flat. It's Moore's worst attempt at it that I've read to date.
The ugly: I'm getting real tired of reading weird misogyny in Moore's comics because he's an otherwise very progressive guy. There's always some rape, or a young lady having sex with an old ugly bastard. I don't think I've read of a single important female character in one of his books that didn't undergo through either of the two processes...
Moore, you're capable of so much more than this. Top 10 is next, don't dissapoint me...

The last issue of this volume, Promethea is learning about magic and her caduceus is teaching her. Alan Moore uses the Major Arcana of the Tarot to talk about the development of mankind and how it all fits together. The history of a life or humanity can all be told in those cards. It is a brilliant bit of writing. The rest of the issue was good, but this chapter really got my mind going in a way it hasn't in a while. I'm blown away by it. It was just so brilliant. How the deck starts out is so perfect with the fool. Moore goes through ever single card and explains the course of humanity and it's very well laid out. I'm so impressed.
I have several tarot desks. I really enjoy it, but I don't have the grasp of the cards the way Alan does. I would love to understand things at that level. If you know this larger story, then when a card does come up, you can know where in the progression of things you are at that moment. I love this stuff as it is so much about symbolism. I love symbolism.
The story before is interesting. Promethea saves the city from Y2K technology, she has sex with some creepy man for knowledge and she comes under attack for a horde of assassins and all the woman who've come before her manifest once again in other women to help you out and they survive. All in all, it's a great issue and I look forward to reading more of it.

Memorable expansion on the first volume though undone by what seems an overly bombastic and idiosyncratic meta-statement on the usual content and grid like formation found in the DC/Marvel 'generic' comic book format.
