It’s always fun revisiting Malazan.

Action packed to the point of occasionally being too fast paced, this is one of Esslemont's better entries.

This series seems to be a highlight reel of the growth of the Malazan empire and any fan of the world will enjoy reading about the empires first clash with Falar.

I enjoyed the move towards some character growth (especially for

Tayschrenn

) but found the book moves at such a breakneck speed that Esslemont can't really dig into it.
