I believe that some books should be read by everyone, and this is definitely one of those books
What a true emotional rollercoaster.

I think that the graphic novel format of this book helps turn this into something that younger people can read and understand. It should be read by people of all ages. We are shown very little about Iran other than the connection with fundamentalist  fantlaticism and terrorism. It's what the media does. It shows you the bad things. This book is so enlightening that I feel enriched with new knowledge that should be known by all.

When what happened to Anoosh happened? I wanted to cry.

The things women were told so that they'd west a veil? I wanted to cry.

I admit that I giggled at the part where Marjane goes to hang out with 'anarchists', only to turn up and see them playing hide and seek and capture the flag!đŸ˜‚

Truly brilliant book that I recommend strongly.

For me, the power of Persepolis is in allowing a reader to understand massive conflicts not through statistics, troops or other top-down view, but through the perspectives and lives of individuals. It allows us to understand the humans at the heart of conflicts that get lost when you cannot connect with them in other mediums

*Read as part of my challenge to (attempt to) read all 100 of NYT's best books of the 21st century*

I can understand why this book was included in the list—it's unflinching and touching and informative. Sometimes I had a hard time following the story, but I enjoyed it overall, especially learning about a time and place and people I'm not particularly familiar with.

I've been trying to get into graphic novels lately but it's been a bit of a hit-or-miss experience so far.

When it comes to Persepolis, I can say that I liked the graphic style and the black and white colouring; I felt like these stilistic choices suited the story quite well. I also appreciated the humour peppered throughout, I did chuckle out loud from time to time.

I read the volume including all 4 parts but I didn't like them in equal measure. The first segment is the one I enjoyed the most, with its focus on the author's childhoood. Still, I cannot but admire Satrapi's honesty in depicting her personal life, the good but also the bad and the less palatable of it.
