Very intriguing with a romance that I was really rooting for.

Meh! Far too long story that ended up on the cusp of being chick lit. Quite like the Sorrento setting and the wood inlay imagery but felt it was way too screenplay like in its style. Small woman with tiny waist outwits big bad villains… hmmmm.

I got this book in a Goodreads giveaway, and it was slightly longer than I was expecting. Not ridiculously long, just longer in comparison to books of that genre. Having now read the book, though, I would say that the extra length is not unwarranted. The story is well-paced and imaginative. Basically a treasure-hunt through Naples with some hard action and a touch of romance. But I swear it's nothing to do with Dan Brown. Catarina makes for a strong (if somewhat foolhardy) heroine, with her various insane plans and various assistants. I wouldn't recommend following too many of her life lessons; they'd probably get you dead. All in all a decent book that's worth a read, and an interesting perspective of the aftermath of the second world war.

It’s a 3 and half stars. I enjoyed this book. It’s basically a thriller mystery set in post ww2 Italy with romance thrown in. For me it probably needed better character development but I found it hard to put down.

I actually really enjoyed it - i’m a sucker for any book that is written in a historical time period and this one was the same. I feel that at the beginning, it took some time to become really interesting but once I got about a quarter of the way in, I really became attached to this novel. Really great writing, I really enjoyed reading this one and I highly recommend

I loved this book, it was a compelling historic novel, with romance, thrills, murder and action. Couldn't ask for more as a holiday read.
