It took a long long long time to get through this which is a bummer. There were complete chapters on how our modern day financial system was born that didn't exactly make it a page turner. However, the man Hamilton's portrait was completely immersive. I couldn't imagine what life was like back then when you didn't come from money, and money constantly haunted him his entire life always having to make as much an effort to appear and be divorced from it. Always broke, always spending, always working.
I want to read another one though, because Alex was not to be found if you know what I mean. Alexander Hamilton, definitely, but I read a Ulysses Grant bio and it was truly an immersive understanding of what it meant to be alive with responsibility at the time, I never disappeared into this like that. Good read, but read better bios.

Review:
This was my first time reading a Novel by Ron so I wasnt sure what to expect but I have to say I really enjoyed it more than I thought I would mainly because I listened to the Audiobook.

The Background about Alexander's Childhood into adulthood was very intriguing  to listen to even tho I remembered some of it.

The Settings were beautifully described which made me feel like I was actually in the book while reading especially when the scenery was described.

Overall a Phenomenal Biography about Alexander Hamilton.  Can't wait to read more by Ron in the future!!

I was surprised by how much Alexander Hamilton was involved in the creation of our country.  We (or maybe just I) learned so little about him in school. I knew about his influence on our economy but so little else. It also gives perspective on politics and that out founding fathers were human too. With all the faults that entails.

Hamilton was a unique dude. Having read the biographies of the founding fathers, my characterization of Hamilton was something along the lines of a brilliant antagonist. I found it valuable to flesh out that impression, and to learn a few facts that never found their way to me like those around his famous affair, the death of his eldest son, and his own death.

This was one of the best books I’ve ever read. Although it took me many hours to finish, it was worth it. Hamilton is a fascinating character and Chernow’s portrayal is thorough and enlightening. I am so glad I finally read this.
