This is a really lively and engaging account of Joseph Lister's life. This is not an area of history I know much about but this book really brought it to life; funny, gory in all the right ways, affectionate and poignant. I would highly recommend The Butchering Art.

Wonderfully written and researched, this is the kind of non-fiction writing that leaves you feeling informed and excited about the subject.

Some very vivid and dark descriptions but a wonderful telling of the revolution of medicine at the hands of Dr. Joseph Lister. I found there was enough detail but not so much it detracted and the story of his life and discoveries was told fluidly and engaging.
