Having been locked up for ten months due to a pandemic I have now reached a point where the glancing touch of an Aldi cashier's gloved hand is the height of erotic tension. 'Insatiable' is most definitely pre-Covid; all those bodies, fluids and not a trace of sanitiser, there could well be masks but not medical grade.
So to the story - I spent quite a lot of time internally screaming 'NO' - these people have got lying swines written in big letters on their foreheads, RUN, VIOLET, RUN. As it is a book Violet could not hear me or see the huge flashing warning signs so she carried on and got mixed up in a very complicated sex heptagon.
In the acknowledgements Daisy Buchanan does thank her parents, bat asks them not to read the book - which is a fair summary of the content.

I quite love novels about ‘lost’ women and Violet sure was lost!
She might not be the most likable of characters, but who would be if we spend this much time inside their head?
I didn’t score it higher because there were some major peeves about this book for me. We spend a lot of time in relatively the same situation and then the final few chapters are so fast in the changes and decisions made.
In spite of the fact that we are viewing the world through Violet’s eyes, we are still being told a lot about her by other characters that don’t read true to her at all, but it doesn’t feel like that’s the intention.
The way a major part of her life was just sorted out for her over lunch and in a matter of days. Is insane. Someone sort me out like that, please.
I have an issue with the way the author has other characters tell us that Violet is so passionate about art, but I don’t feel she ever shows us this ‘inside’ of Violet and so it didn’t ring true for me.
I was hoping for more to come of her reconciliation with Nadia since Violet spends the first section of the book longing so deeply for her friend and then… they just make up in 1 chapter and we don’t hear from her ever again?
I loved Sasha’s outline of a character (she doesn’t really come to life and feels more like a pretty life vest for Violet to cling to in the end) and her telling Violet that she ‘wears her knowledge so lightly’ was one of my favorite moments. However, why would this great woman be falling in love with this mess of a girl that can’t untangle herself from a ticking timebomb of a couple?
