An interesting read! I've read many of Patterson's adult mysteries but this is the first of his YA (though I confess, I thought this series was written for adults when I first heard the titles!). The Angel children become the prime suspects in the murder of their parents and sixteen year old Tandy takes it upon herself to discover the truth. The Angel family dynamics were a bit out there which made the story all the more interesting - why are these children so freakishly perfect? What happened to this mysterious boy Tandy can barely remember? At the end, we are still left without all the answers, though I suspect the next in the series may help us in that regard!

I enjoyed the breaking down of the wall between the reader and Tandy. It was clever how she was aware of us as the reader and kept us in the dark throughout some of the novel! An interesting change from the regular structure of novels!

I look forward to reading the second in the series as I've just won a copy through Goodreads!

This book was a very slow start for me. I didn't begin to enjoy until I was past the halfway point. I will read the sequel because I want to figure out the loose ends left from this one.

This is the very first book where I had to look at ending spoilers because I couldn't get into it initially. It's just I couldn't like the narrator. After reading the ending, though, I understood what causes Tandy to be that way and managed to sympathise with her and the family. I came to enjoy this fast-paced novel (albeit needing a boost of faith in it) and plan to read the next story. What messed up parents they were, though!

Like all James Patterson books (for YA), this was almost like having a conversation with the main character and had a lot to do with science. Of course, I'm really into science, so I really liked this new novel by Patterson. I loved Tandy's character because she is extremely strong and capable of tackling everything, even if she was designed to be that way. I do think that the story took a little too long to unfold, but that just means that I'm even more excited for the next book and discovering more about Tandy's past and who James Rampling really is.....
