This book was really good. The plot was different I’m a big fan of stories about gods and goddess so this really intrigued me and I am such a sucker for moody male character like John.
My only real problem is everything I’ve read about this book it is supposed to be a retelling of Persephone and I just did not get that, granted I am not a Greek mythology expert but I do remember the main parts of Persephone. So I would recommend if you’re expecting a retelling of Persephone this isn’t the book to choose but if you’re looking for just a good story then I would defiantly recommend this book.

Meg Cabot couldn’t disappoint me even if she wrote a story about clowns (I HATE those creepy things) and she definitely doesn’t disappoint with the start of a new series. The fact that an amazing Meg Cabot book now has Mythology woven into it simply adds to the amazingness of it all! Pierce is such a strong character and is so well written. As a reader, you feel as if you know her like your best friend, root for her when she is struggling and go through every range of emotion just as she does. Moving in high school has to be the worst but when you add in the fact that someone is following her and everyone thinks she isn’t right after the accident.

When I got about ten pages from the end I kept thinking, “I know there is going to be more to the series, but HOW THE HECK can this even begin to wrap up with only ten pages left?!” She did a magnificent job (like anyone should doubt it) and definitely left me drooling in anticipation for the next one. I love books that make you learn new things without knowing it too, and I learned about Key West and love that she wove its rich history into this story. This is definitely one of my new favorites! (I know, how many favorites do you have?! Never enough, dear readers…. Never enough!)

Wow, I really enjoyed this audiobook. The characters felt familiar but new, the story was darker than most Meg Cabot books, and the back-and-forth-in-time narration was suspenseful enough without being annoying. I have a feeling that this series is going to be great.

As a lover of ancient myths, I love the idea of retelling the wonderful myth of Persephone. It's oddly one of my favorites.

Though it was one of the typically written Meg Cabot books, it was also completely different. Instead of just telling her story as she does, she kept much of the tale hidden and only slowly revealed part of the tale in the book. There are still limitless things to be considered in the next two books of the series.

Usually, she tells the whole story, and then just tells the next story that she can come up with for her characters. For this series, it seem she really took the time to plot out the story before writing the first book and pitching it to her agent. It's a nice change of pace.

Ok there were soooo many problems I had w this book and the writing and I would write them all except I’m pretty sure everyone else has and also..... I still somehow liked reading it and finished the entire book in half a day and I haven’t really read that way since I was a kid . And despite my myriad of issues w her writing and juvenile stylistic choices in this the actual story itself kept me interested, the pacing was fast enough, and plus it had my favorite device of scattered clues that add up to a reveal in the end. So I might just read the next two books lol even tho otherwise I would give this 0/5 stars bc it’s actually ridiculous how many times she had to drill in the point that his eyes were like diff forms of metal and blades. And also it’s creepy that he was obsessed w her since she was 7 years old . Also I’m all for a broody “dark” boy character but this guy was so poorly written he sounded like an IRL pseudo soft boy who read books w actual brooding love interests and tried desperately to emulate them but failed.
And also a million other problematic things.

I love Meg Cabot! Again she has written a book that I loved, I just love her writing and the characters she brings to life. I loved how she took the Persephone myth and made it completely her own. There has one thing that Meg Cabot has never disappointed I love her main characters, and Pierce is no different I love her strong will no matter what that’s hard to find these days, I loved even though it was incredibly stupid what she did for Hannah I loved that even though she was going through shit and Hannah called her crazy the fact that she was willing to put herself in danger just to prove to everyone that Hannah was the victim made me love her, and I love how she always fought to get to her family and how everyone else’s needs came before hers that was amazing ! I also love the chemistry between her and john; it honestly put the biggest smile on my face when she first met John. But when she met him why she died and I know why she did it and I also respect it because I would probably most likely would do the same but I felt so damn bad for John, Now when it comes down to Mr. John Hayden I love him I thought he was really sweet and just does not know how to show it, I thought quite funny in the way he acted with Pierce I loved them together! Any who this book was amazing and I can’t wait to see what happens in the next book!

I love Meg Cabot, but this wasn't one of my favorites by her.
