The Last Best Hope gives star trek fans great backstory and an adventurous attempt to rescue a population of individuals from a natural disaster. Simultaneously, readers are presented with social, political and ego driven situations which draw parallels to our current reality.

You don't have to be a star trek fan to understand or enjoy this book. But having some knowledge of the universe is helpful as main characters from the show make appearances and some chapters reference key events from the show.

I was aware of the outcome before picking up this book but it didn't make it any easier to watch it unfold. In my opinion, Picard and his team were doing the right thing. Politics, hubris  and pride were the main factors that slowed down the efforts. And I kinda feel like Maddix's distaste his subpar creations seeped into their program. 🤷🏾‍♀️
